Background

Public space leaders are the drivers of public prosperity and development. Because of the role they play, public leaders need to come into an ecosystem, where they can receive support as they serve.

Scope of Public Leadership

Public Leadership encompasses different spheres including political leadership – elected and appointed in democratic societies (Executive, Legislature, Judiciary); leaders in the Health, Sports, Academics, Corporate world of Banking, Insurance, etc;  Security Services; Community and Civic leaders in formal and informal roles.

Africa Centre for Public Leadership is a professional membership body that promotes the practice of transformational public leadership and consulting in Africa. It was established in 2022 by Fled International Leadership Institute as part of broader initiatives to professionalize the field of leadership development in Africa.

Purpose: to provide professional career advancement pathway for leaders in the public and private sectors.

Mission: to inspire transformative approach to public leadership in Africa through induction, training, networking, and peer support.

Vision: An Africa where public leadership is transformational

How Does One Become a Member?

Membership Induction at ACPL brings you into and ecosystem of transformational public leaders and practitioners in Africa. Admission is through Direct Induction, which means there is no qualifying examination; however, terms and conditions apply.

 ACPL Objectives

Membership Induction – To identify qualified individuals and professionals in the private and public sectors and Induct them as Members of ACPL.

Professionalization – To uphold high professional standards for public leaders in Africa and formalize leadership development and consulting as a recognized and respect field of professional practice through Code of Ethics for all members.

Capacity Building – To provide training, resources, and opportunities that enhance professional career advancement of Members through Continuing Professional Leadership Development Programs (MCPD).

Promotion & Networking – To promote Peer Review processes and networking through educational and business Tours, and to celebrate the achievements and contributions of ACPL members and other leaders to Africa’s transformation.

Advocacy & Public Education – To organize lectures, seminars, and public education dialogues to raise awareness on values-driven public leadership.

Collaborations – To collaborate with relevant government agencies to mainstream Leadership training into academic institutions, and foster partnerships with national and international bodies to advance professional leadership development and consulting in Africa.

Programs & Activities

ACPL is actively engaged in diverse programs and activities aimed at improving the leadership competence of members and offering them platforms for professional growth and networking. These include:

Leadership Induction – Regular inductions for qualified leaders throughout the year.

Capacity Building & Training– Regular workshops, training, and seminars as part of Continuing Professional Leadership Development (MCPD).

Promotion & Peer Review – Engaging in Peer Review processes for public leaders in private and public institutions and celebrate the achievements and contributions of ACPL members and other leaders to Africa’s transformation.

Advocacy and Lobbying – Engaging with government bodies, policy makers, foreign missions, and international organizations to advocate for sustainable development through professional leadership practice.

Public Leadership Week (PLW) – An annual platform for networking, knowledge-sharing and celebrating the contributions of public leaders to sustainable development in Africa. PLW holds every November 6-12.
