FLED Transformational Leadership Recruitment Process
The idea of recruiting people into FLED Transformational Leadership community is with definite intention. It is not an ad hoc thing, it is not an afterthought, and it is not purposeless. It has clear pathways leading to somewhere specific. It is important that those who come into this community understand the processes of admission, the expectations, and responsibilities of community members. Knowledge is key and information is the basis for knowledge. We believe individuals in this community owe themselves the duty to understand the intricacies of the leadership recruitment pattern of FLED and the subsequent engagements.
There are two pathways through individuals are brought into Fled Transformational Public leadership community.
-
Training
The primary pathway through which individuals come into the Fled Leadership community is through Leadership Training – LT. Fled International Leadership Institute and Foundation for Leadership & Education Development (Fled Foundation) conduct leadership training courses and programs for individuals. While Fled Institute runs leadership training courses for adults and professionals, Fled Foundation runs different leadership programs for young people from secondary school to tertiary institutions.
For instance, since 1998, Fled Foundation has conducted Leadership Skills Enhancement Course -LESEC- for secondary school prefects, and has developed a standard module now approved by the Federal Ministry of Education through NERDC, for the leadership training of school prefect in Nigeria. The document is available for public use.
Similarly, since 1999 the Foundation has hosted a one-year leadership Course for young people called, Global Citizenship & Leadership Program – GCLP. It is very rich and comprehensive leadership course. Quite a number of youths have graduated from this program. We also run Summer Leadership Program for youths as well as Intercollegiate Public Speaking Contests. These and more some of the verifiable leadership programs carried out by Fled Foundation, still ongoing.
On the other hand, Fled Institute conducts leadership training courses for adults and professionals in private and public service. These courses have duration from 3 days to 18 months. In others words, Fled Institute is responsible for running leadership training courses for adults.
By design, those who attend and complete leadership courses at both the Institute and the Foundation become part of the Fled Alumni. Training is one of the pathways individuals come into the Fled Transformational Leadership Community.
-
Induction
The second and most recent pathway individuals join Fled leadership community is thorough Leadership Induction. This process began in May 2019. The idea was to bring in a wide range of professionals and public officers who may not have taken leadership course at the Institute into our ecosystem to continue learning. Presently, leadership Induction conducted through the platform of Africa Centre for Public Leadership – ACPL, which is the professional membership arm of Fled Institute.
Either through Training or Induction, What’s Next?
As one comes into Fled Transformational leadership community, either through training or induction, the next along the process pathway is Deployment and Continuous Development. Deployment includes ensuring that members of our community are supported and nominated to occupy leadership positions in the private and public sectors where they can create vision, lead a team and effect positive changes. These leaders will now serve with a transformational mental leadership disposition.
After deployment comes Peer Support. We recognize the enormous problems in our public leadership systems. We recognize that we have very weak institutions. We also recognize that these institutions are strong or weak due to the quality of people that lead them. The system or the institutions cannot be change overnight. We need to build a critical mass of people with a transformational mindset who can make a difference in the public space. This is where Peer Support becomes very important. Peer Support from the Fled Leadership Community will enable our leaders to make the necessary impacts in public leadership
This is the summary of FLED Transformational Leadership Recruitment Process. This is what Fled Transformational Leadership Community stands for.
It is illustrated as below
Training + Induction ~ Deployment + Continuous Development + Peer Support = leadership impact === transforming society.
To follow through along this pathway requires a great deal of sacrifice, patience, and commitment. We understand that not everyone will be ready to follow this path, not for long enough to see the fruits of the process. As it is often said, nothing good comes easy.
The FLED pathway of public leadership recruitment and deployment is rigorous, but it is sustainable and self-sustaining. We believe in this process. We are confident of the possible outcomes. We are committed to it for the long-term. We are aware of what other organizations and individuals are doing in this field of leadership development, but this is our own, that carries the FLED DNA.
FLED adopts a holistic approach to leadership development and deployment in order to crate sustainable impacts. Training and induction without deployment and support amounts to useless efforts. This is our approach to leadership development in Africa.
We are open to questions for clarifications.
